Return to your lifepod, base, or other interior structures during the night to build your equipment, and. As we craft light sources, you gain more exploration options, but batteries deplete (save them!) and are usually better used in wrecks or vehicles. Explore during the daylight as it offers the best chance of spotting resources. I will include Survival tips as we come to them in. I will write the guide using this method, but I recommend trying Survival as it opens up much more of the game while having only a minor impact on completion time. The quickest method is to use Freedom, eliminating your need for water and food, while preserving your oxygen and health limitations. Survival, Freedom, and Hardcore all unlock achievements. You choose your difficulty as you begin a New Game. If you would like a layout of the biomes with helpful resources and locations: (spoiler warning) These markers can be disabled in the PDA once they are no longer needed. As you progress through the story, the HUD automatically adds sites of interest as you are informed of them. Those static clouds on the horizon (more on those later) also serve as North and South. The sun rises in the North and sets in the South. You can venture around it, but there be monsters. To orient yourself, the Aurora hull points roughly North and serves as the Eastern edge of the map, effectively. There is no in-game map, and you start without a compass but can soon craft one. Your lifepod spawns at a random location in the safe shallows. The most I have ever encountered in one save was 4. We may encounter 1-2 in this walkthrough, but they are not needed. My understanding of time capsules is that there are 40 potential spawn locations. Since they are user-submitted, you might receive items that are way OP for your situation, or you might get useless crap (figuratively or literally). Many have an audio file to play while you explore.Īdditionally, the game has a time capsule function that allows other players who finished the game to drop items for you to find and (maybe) use. I suggest collecting each one you see, but I designate which ones are optional. You encounter several abandoned PDAs which contain information about your circumstances. Several larger wrecks contain sealed doors, so you may need to return to the wreck once we gain the ability to open them. If you already have the blueprint, you receive titanium to build with instead. You create a scanner early in the game, so scan everything that the prompt appears on. Take a moment to search them for possible blueprints and other loot. These can be anything from a small cargo box, debris field, or entire sections of the Aurora. Wrecks/SalvageĪs you explore, you encounter various metal equipment lying on the seafloor. Refer to it to change your quick select items, use/move your inventory, and check information you may have missed. This contains your inventory, blueprints, HUD markers, and encyclopedia. Your go-to for any and all questions in Subnautica. If you are over 90% on both food and water meters, your health improves at about 1%/second. You learn how to farm both about 1/3 of the way through the story, effectively eliminating that constant worry. There are plenty of smaller fish and plants that can be eaten raw or processed in your Fabricator to become healthier. If you play on Survival mode, you need to intake water and food fairly often. You will spend about 2/3 of the game collecting and organizing your resources and then building items to make story progress. Most resources are plentiful in their designated areas, and there are way more blueprints than required to build items. I will direct you towards sites best suited for mineral and plant resources and finding blueprints, but you will need to locate them yourself. Most items can be crafted in the Fabricator in your lifepod, but others require more advanced machinery. For better items, you first need to find and scan broken fragments in the wreckage before learning how to create each item and what resources are required. Caves are excellent sites for mineral gathering but come with the risk of drowning should you spend too much time underwater or get lost. Most of the minerals are available on the ocean floor and walls. Primarily these are different types of minerals and useful biological samples. In order to survive and generally improve your quality of life, you need to collect resources. Whatever made that noise will likely be looking for its next meal. If you hear something that sounds menacing, proceed with caution. One thing to note: audio cues are very important in this game.
